COG BLACK MINISTRIES SERVE POPULATION OF AFRICAN DESCENT
The Church of God Department of Black Ministries serves the population of people of African descent with the United States and Canada. An arm of the division of Evangelism and outreach, its director serves under the supervision of executive committee liaison, Dr. Orville Hagan. The thematic emphasis of the department is the promotion of black evangelism within the United States and Canada.
It is the mission of this department to utilize every possible means to strengthen every existing church and its administrative team, to fully evangelize its people and prepare laborers to involve them to adequately rap this end time harvest. It is our goal: to lift the self worth and respect of the Church of God black constituency; to provide opportunities for the involvement of key black leaders within the mainstream of the Church of God; to build bridges with other ethic groups; to open opportunities for church planting and urban ministries; to provide training to adequately equip laborers for the harvest; to receive independent churches who are willing to subscribe to Church of God teachings to fellowship; to evangelize our cities; to remember the past by honoring those who have labored so faithfully to establish the Church of God in the black community; to partner with other departments in evangelism and training.
There are already more than 500 black congregations in the United States and Canada with ministries targeted toward the social needs of people within the state categories. The department, when called upon, serves as a resource to leaders of African descent in other areas of the world. There are countries in the Caribbean, England, and Canada and in North and South Africa where large denominational populations of African descent exist. Resources are made available to them when needed. The department sponsors black awareness celebrations; during Black History Month in February and regional church growth fellowships and conventions.
